Advanced Sailing - The Next Step

Is your kid enthusiastic about sailing and looking to get back on the water for more? Campers ages 11-15 can single hand or sail with a partner and learn to control this Olympic class planing hull with simple controls for advanced technique.

Handling a Laser will treat your budding Olympian to a sailing experience like never before – flying through the water, spinning on a dime and maneuvering through obstacles with ease.

This one-design camp takes sailing to the next level through comprehensive drills and hands-on feedback. And, the curriculum also helps campers take on the work needed to earn certification through US Sailing.

You’ll learn the following skills:
  • Advanced Sail Trim & Heel Control
  • Beach Takeoffs and Landings
  • Advanced Aerodynamics
  • Sail Shape controls
  • Capsize Self-Rescue & Dry Capsizing

To Keep in Mind: Campers should be comfortable swimming and treading water, be able to submerge their heads under water, behave prudently if a capsize occurs, and be in adequate physical shape to engage in the Camp’s activities. If in doubt, please contact your doctor. In addition Campers and/or parents must notify a staff member regarding any medical condition of which the instructor should be made aware. Although you may provide your own, Shoreline does provide PFDs (life vests) and wetsuits.

What to Bring

Please send your camper with lunch and snacks. Due to planned renovations to the Bistro which will be ongoing throughout 2026, Shoreline Lake will not be providing a camp lunch with any camp programs this year. Additionally, there may not be food available for purchase onsite so please send your camper with enough to carry them through the full day.

Campers should bring comfortable clothes, a jacket or fleece, a towel and change of clothes, lots of sun protection, a lanyard to secure their glasses around their heads, a reusable water bottle, and shoes or booties to wear while on the boats and in the water. No flip-flops allowed. Campers should have a pair of water shoes/aqua socks to wear while boating, and a pair of athletic shoes to wear before and after boating

Helmets are recommended for this camp, please send your camper with a helmet if you would like them to wear one while sailing. Helmets for other sports (biking, skateboarding, or multi-sport helmets) may be worn. A limited number of helmets may be available upon request to borrow on a daily basis; bringing a helmet from home is recommended to ensure the best fit.

Hats and sunglasses are recommended but not required. If wearing glasses, Campers should bring a lanyard to secure glasses around their head. It is also a good idea to send along some additional money or a snack with your Camper to carry him/her throughout the day, as well as for locker tokens – cost $2 and are recommended for securing valuables.

Important: Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your class to check in.
