Powerboat Training

As part of expanding the skillset, and dedicated educational resources, for Sailing Instructor Level I candidates, as well as Summer Sailing Camp Counselors and Sailing Coaches, participants (ages 13+) will learn basic powerboat skills on a variety of vessels (Skiff, Rib/Inflatable, Boston Whaler). Instruction will include:

  • Launching from boat ramp
  • Landing at dock
  • Launching trailer from boat ramp
  • Pulling boat out of the water
  • Maintenance best practices
  • And more...

Getting ready for the US Sailing Level 2 Instructor course, or running your own sailing program? Additional instruction may also cover rescue procedures such as mast tip or centerboard push.

Unlike attempting (on your own) to tackle these skills in the more unpredictable conditions of the Bay, Shoreline provides consistent weather and a protected environment, plus the appropriate vessels and experienced boating experts leading the class.

An adjunct part of the Sailing curricula, this course is also a convenient means for learning the necessary powerboating skills required by US Sailing Instructor Certification programs (and the Counselor-In-Training Sailing Instructor course).

If you or your teen are interested in taking part, please contact Chris Nicol, Boathouse Manager (boathouse@shorelinelake.com and (650) 965-7474) to learn more.

What to Bring

Students should bring comfortable clothes, a jacket or layers, a towel and change of clothes, lots of sun protection, a lanyard to secure your glasses, a bottle of water, and shoes that stay on your feet.
